The NicholsonCircle of the Low Countries has been established in the year 2002. That summer, initiators Jan Spaans and Jan-Willem Vismans, and probably some more, went about the Dutch marinas looking for other Nicholsons. Fortunately, Nicholsons are usually easy to recognise from afar. The result was a first list of some thirty yachts from the Netherlands and Belgium.

Purposes The purpose of the Circle is clear. The fleet of Nicholsons, beatiful and well founded as they may be, is ageing. In order to deal with the problems that go with age, there is an increasing demand for spares and for knowledge about concealed constructions. A Circle like this one can provide a sound exchange of knowledge. Most owners have had todeal with considerable overhauls and are now able to share their experiences with others that still have to face the same problem.Apart from the useful technical side of the Circle, there is also the social part of it. Nothing is better than gazing at all that beauty. Nothing is more fun than setting up an extended discussion about the favorite pastime we all have in common.

Gatherings Organising Circle Gatherings serves the technical purpose as well as the social one. Therefore, we have a meeting twice a year. The first one is held somewhere in february and is organised on dry land in the middle of the Netherlands. The second meeting is usually held in the first weekend of September. In order toenable all Nicholson owners to participate in this ‘wet’ meeting, we organise this one alternating in the IJsselmeer area and in the South-West Netherlands Delta area.

Membership Although the NicholsonCircle of the Low Coutries is based in the Netherlands we do welcome overseas members. We can imagine English East Coast Nicholson owners to participate actively in our activities. And - long live electronics - communications are easy and cheap using Email and the Internet. Therefore, membership is cheap. We only ask €10,- a year. This is used for webhosting and domain-registration. Occasionally, we can afford to offer members a drink. Of course, cost of meals during meetings are at the members own expense.
